I stumbled across this rather insightful article from The Good Men Project twitter page. It is by a rather deluded women ( who could be using her position for better means) writing for Fox News, who seems to think women are destroying marriage and subsequently the world. As in, modern women are too angry and feminist, so men think ’women aren’t women anymore’ and don’t want to marry us anymore. *cries*
For your information, women aren’t on this earth to just be married off and give birth to babies. We have a greater purpose, as do men. Some of us change the world, by finding cures for diseases, others inspire future generations, or raise a lovely bunch of kids. We are all diverse. Not one of us fits in a neat and tidy Barbie box, with fixed smiles ready to serve and look after the home. Life just isn’t like that. Get over it.
By suggesting that it is women’s fault that men don’t want to marry us, is just fucking absurd. Some men ( and women) just don’t like the idea of marriage, big bloody deal. You can’t blame a whole gender on that. This is a modern society, where couples can co-habit and have children, without anyone batting an eyelid. Others do want to get married ( like myself) and that’s totally fine too, but it’s not what should define a woman anymore. We can define ourselves these days.
In this shitty article, she states that women are too angry and selfish. Yeah, at times we are, and you know why? Because we want to be treated as equals, we want to have the same freedoms and choices that men have! Why is this deemed unfeminine? Can anyone tell me why wanting to be self sufficient, having passions, and wanting to do something with your life, is so fucking hard to comprehend if the person in question is a woman? Anyone?
‘Men have nowhere to go’ is what she goes on to say, because all the bloody women are taking the jobs and the college places. I translate that as OH WHAT ABOUT THE POOR MENZ AND ALL THEIR PRIVILEGE. Welcome to the 21st century, women can do smart things too you know. We are pretty good at exams and when a man doesn’t try to stop us, we are pretty awesome in the work place. Hillary Clinton anyone?
I think this ‘subculture’ of men she is talking about, are intimidated by independent and intelligent women. I don’t think they can handle the fact that some women are simply better at them in every single aspect of their lives. It crushes their poor little egos. These are the type of men, no woman would ever want to marry anyway. They are usually the misogynistic types lurking on the internet to troll women within an inch of their life. Just the other week a guy threatened to rape me, because I dared to speak my mind.
So no I won’t stop being a feminist, I won’t stop being angry and I certainly won’t bow to a man. If I sound like your perfect woman, then brilliant, say hello. If not, just fuck off back to The Good Men Project to whine about your lonely existence with all the other right-wing arseholes.
Who was writing, Mrs Walton of Walton’s mountain? I’m not the shy, retiring type and I’ve had five proposals of marriage so far…Turned them down because I don’t believe in it, but really, whoever thinks men don’t marry or fancy feminists is from Hicksville USA.

Yes there are men with ‘white van man’ mentality but there always have been and always will. These men are misogynistic, as week as being utterly pathetic.
There are plenty of men who like to talk to bright, articulate women. Yes, I am shallow, I admit looks count too but I can’t see myself in a relationship with a woman who can’t hold a conversation and talk for herself.
I’m divorced and was a single parent. I raised a daughter who is articulate and speaks up for herself. She managed to find a man brave enough to marry her.
But wait, what do Fox News know about anything anyway?

You’re so right (obvs)! My husband knew I was a feminist when we met, funnily enough it doesn’t seem to have scared him off, there is so much more to life than wifedom and motherhood, not that these are unimportant, they’re both valid choices. Why are so many people still so determined to keep women ‘in their place’ especially other women? This journalist wouldn’t be able to write this if it wasn’t for the women’s movement, doesn’t she see the irony?
Unfortunately, I don’t think she does see the irony. Her views have been warped by the patriarchy, and she doesn’t even know it! No doubt there are men in Fox News encouraging this sort of sexist message. It’s sad really.

Women have the freedom to have a better life these days than they had in the past because of having more freedom and choices.

I don’t believe this greater freedom necessarily destroys the institution of marriage, but if it does, then that must mean that marriage isn’t something that is necessarily good or desirable.
“All they have to do is surrender to their nature – their femininity – and let men surrender to theirs” Oh my word, this makes me so angry. There is no such thing as a friggin “feminine nature”. I am female. I can do what ever I want. If I choose to be what the world has defined as “feminine” then I will be. If I don’t, then that doesn’t go against nature, that goes against today’s gender constructions. Fool.
